Rishikesh – Located 35KM from the Camp

A sacred town at the convergence of rivers Ganges and Chandrabhaga, Rishikesh is a naturally attractive place at the foothills of the lower Himalayas in the state of Uttaranchal in India. The importance of this holy city lies in the fact that it serves as a gateway to other religiously important centers like Kedarnath, Gangotri, Badrinath and Yamnotri.

Rishikesh literally means Lord of the Senses, stands for Lord Vishnu and the city is blessed with the flowing of Holy Ganges. The city is a hub of many ancient and new temples, attracting thousands of pilgrims throughout the year. The popular belief of Hindu devotees is that performing austerities in this holy town and offering prayers in the holy temples brings the much needed attainment of ‘Mukthi’, the salvation.

The main attractions in this exciting tourist and religious spot include Gita Bhavan, Nilkanth Mahadev, Lakshman Jhula, Swarga Ashram and Triveni Ghat, all the places having great religious importance.

Rajaji National Park – 45 KM from the Camp

Rajaji National Park is one of the biggest parks in north India situated at the meeting point of Himalayan foothills and Indo Gangetic plains, the venue for migratory birds from world over. The core zone & one of the main gates of the national park is Chilla. Chilla is 17 kms from Rishikesh on the east western side.

Rajaji is one of northern India’s major wildlife reserves and the best places to see the fauna and flora of the terai region and spread over an area of 820.42 sq km. The park named after the great freedom fighter Late Sri C. Rajgopalachari; popularly known as “Rajaji” was created after joining the three sanctuaries in the Western UP, Shivaliks – Rajaji, Motichur and Chilla into a large protected area in the year 1983. Rajaji National Park is distinct for its pristine scenic beauty and rich bio-diversity and it’s a paradise for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts, the ecosystem of the park is adorned with Elephants, Tigers, Leopards, Deer and Ghorals as its best known life forms.

An overnight stay and Jeep Safari can be organised.

Devprayag – 35 KM from the Camp

Devprayag is situated at an altitude of 475 mtrs above sea level at the confluence of Alaknanda and Bhagirathi River. Devprayag is situated in Tehri Garhwal District and some part of Devprayag comes under Pauri Garhwal district. Devprayag is the last prayag (confluence) of Alaknanda River and from this point the confluence of Alaknanda and Bhagirathi River is known as Ganga.

The town is the seat of the Pundits of the Badrinath Dham. The town of Devprayag holds great religious importance amongst Hindus as the Divine Ganga River takes its real form from here.

Chamba – 100 KM from the Camp

Chamba is a small hill town, situated at an altitude of 1676 m, in the Tehri district of Uttarakhand. It is an unexplored, unscathed, serene destination, approximately 60 km from Mussoorie. Away from the crowd and rush of the cities, it is an excellent place to unwind and have fun, amidst the beautiful hills and snow-clad mountains. The place offers several picturesque sites and scenic vistas ranging from the snow clad ranges of Himalayas to the wonderful, yet awe-inspiring sights of the verdant ravines and the beautiful views of river Bhagirathi – all of them a delight to one’s eyes.

The beautiful, un-spoilt forests of Chamba, with pine, deodar and apple trees, are undoubtedly captivating. Due to its rich cultural background, the town has enclosed with in itself the beauty of several mores and ethnicity, still unexplored by the world beyond its boundaries. Due to its strategic location, as the entry point to inner Himalayas, and common boundaries with Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Pauri, Rudraprayag, this place is certainly going to become one of the most popular tourist spot of Uttarakhand in future.

Kanhatal – 115 Km from the Camp

Kanatal is a small town situated at an altitude of about 8500 ft above the level of the sea. The entire place has gained the privilege of showing off the snow clad of the Garhwal Himalayas. Even the beautiful forests are hidden inside the gentle view of snow. It can be easily said that the Nature’s real beauty has been gifted to the city which adds up to the other advantages.

As the place gets really cold, the maximum rising temperature during summer is approximately in the middle of 10 to 15 degrees and during winters it moves down to minus temperatures. Kanatal never gets hot in any of the climatic conditions as a result of which the city always remains pleasant.

Nearest visiting destinations are Surkhanda Devi Mandir, the amazingly beautiful city of Dhanaulti, The famous Tehri Dam and Kaddukhal. One can leave this place without having a glimpse of all these places.

Tehri Dam – 130 KM from the Camp

The Tehri Dam is a multi-purpose rock and earth-fill embankment dam on the Bhagirathi River near Tehri. Tehri Dam is located on the Bhagirathi River, which is the principal tributary of the sacred River Ganges. Tehri Dam has a power generation capacity of 2400 MW, provision of irrigation to an area of 270,000 hectares and irrigation stabilization to an area of 600,000 hectares.

Tehri Dam in Uttaranchal is maintained by Tehri Hydro Development Corporation. The dam is also capable of supplying 270 million gallons of drinking water per day to the industrialized areas of Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.

Mussorie – Located 115 KM from the Camp

Mussorie is located at a height of 2,500 meters in the green Himalayan range. Due to its location and beauty Mussorie is considered as the best hill station in the northern region. The modern bungalows, malls and well laid gardens which are located on the small hills around the area are enough to attract many visitors.

The history of Mussorie dates back to 1825 when a shooting lodge was constructed jointly by Captain Young, an adventurous British military officer and Mr. Shore the superintendent of Revenues at Dehradoon.

Mussorie is famous not only for its scenic beauty but it has developed but it has also developed into an important centre of education.
